Preparing Your Files

Adobe Photoshop™

Photoshop is the most common package for doing complex image manipulation. Photoshop is so popular that many designers design entire pieces entirely in this package.

Get Started Right

When creating a new file in Photoshop, the most essential element is the resolution. 300 pixels/inch (DPI) is standard. Also, by working in RGB Color mode, you have access to most Filters.

Color Accuracy

We recommend working in RGB Color mode, as well as setting your View option to Proof Colors. This allows Photoshop to express print-accurate colors throughout the creative process.

When Finished

When finished with your file, you'll need to convert the image from a layered Photoshop document to a flattened format.

This main step is located on the Layers Palette. Select the right arrow pull-down menu, scroll down and select Flatten Image.

This will combine your layers into a single layer.

Saving Your File

Finally, choose Save As from the File menu. This will allow you to choose a file format for the printer. For file Format, choose TIFF. This will create a new file, leaving your original file untouched. (Don't forget to archive a layered version of your work file!)
